'The Dutchess' album review

Fresh off the multi-platinum heels of The Black Eyed Peas, Fergie delivers her solo debut, "The Dutchess."

A melting pot of pop, R&B and hip-hop, the album from the singer, who joined the Peas in 2003, doesn't stray far from the style that made the group a household name.

The lead single, "London Bridge," has held a dominant presence on the charts and holds the record for having the second highest jump in Billboard Hot 100 history, jumping from #84 to #5, before landing at #1 this summer.

Fergie has come a long way from her days as a member of Wild Orchid, along the way battling a crystal meth addiction, something she addresses on in the song "Losing My Ground."

She sings, "I don't know what day it is but tell me 'cuz I gotta know how to be, is that me in the mirror 'cuz I thought it was somebody else."

Fans of bumping BEP tracks such as "My Humps" and "Pump It" can find tracks just as radio and club friendly on "The Dutchess."

Fergie goes from rapping to singing on this album. The intro track "Fergalicious" is a fun track reminiscent of "My Humps." Like "My Humps," Fergie teases about her body. She boasts, "My body stay vicious, I be up in the gym just working on my fitness." It's that light hearted, feel good fun that makes "The Dutchess" such a guilty pleasure.

She does a great job balancing infectious beats with melodies that don't leave your head and keeps your fingers thumping.

Each track compliments each other on the disc, and with the aid of the founder of the Peas, Will.i.am, there is no filler on the album.

Fergie is without a doubt a better singer then rapper and she plays on this. The tracks where she is rapping incorporates the vocals of Will.i.am, giving it the feel of The Black Eyed Peas, which is a great thing.

Many solo debuts will find the singer as far away from the group as possible. Here Fergie collaborates with her band-mates as well as bringing in Rita Marley, the widow of reggae legend Bob Marley, John Legend and Ludacris of the Gwen Stefani-esque "Glamorous."

Fergie even samples The Temptations' classic hit, "Get Ready," for "Here I Come," another track that finds the pint-sized beauty spitting rhymes.

The sole woman delivers on this album. She shows that although this is a solo album, she won't remain a solo artist.

B'Day has a freshness and feminist prowl that is refreshing to the ears however with 10 tracks it doesnt satisfy the hunger left over. So I thought about reasons to leak the album, which I've been sitting on all week and I opted not to. I'll just tell you to buy it because you won't be dissappointed. It IS worth your $9.99 unlike Cassie and Cherish. This album is great and nothing that you would exoect from Bad Boy, I know these girls may be using this as a stepping stone for solo careers but I strongly advise them to put out at least 3 more albums. They are great together and unlike Cherish all four girls can sang, not sing, sang (remember that episode). And I know its all about Aubrey BUT D.Woods and Dawn are that shit. They kill every track on the album. Go buy it next week but if you want to sample it shoot me an email. But even though I have I still plan on buying it.
